The One
Million Mission
in Africa

To build a world-class Artificial Intelligence (AI) knowledge, research and innovation ecosystem that delivers high-impact transformational research, business use applications, AI-first start-ups, support employability and social good use cases.

Meet

Why we need you to be our mentor?

At Data Science Nigeria, we believe that Africa’s development can be accelerated through world-class data capacity building and talent development in the emerging data digital revolution.

We have also recognised that mentorship and experiential learning can fast-track the assimilation and application of learning in high-intensity fields like Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Advanced Analytics.

We are seeking world-class professional data science practitioners either in the industry or in the academic community to mentor young Nigerians via regular emails and tele-chats via a tracked mentoring programme.

This programme requires the volunteer mentors to invest at least 60 minutes within 14 days to coach, guide and inspire aspiring local data scientists. This will complement our local bootcamps, regular Kaggle competitions, and student exposure to projects as part of our goal to train 1,000,000 data experts in 10 years.

Why be a mentor

You will be part of a transforming altruistic initiative helping to develop Africa.

You will have access to a large pool of budding African data scientists for project outsourcing.

You will be showcased and celebrated on our website as a true knowledge champion.

Mentors will be recommended for local data science projects in which offshore freelancers are required on an on-demand basis.

Our mentors can partner with their mentees who have a commercially viable idea to develop mutually beneficial data products for local and/or international markets.

Who is the ideal mentee that will be recommended for your mentoring?

A young and passionate data science/big data enthusiast, early starter, and new-to-middle career (intermediate) data professionals

Has shown commitment through participation in all local DSN Kaggle competitions, collective capacity building via MOOC studies with proof of above-average scores, or has a specific data product that requires professional fine-tuning and commercial go-to-market.
